Is this a good cat food?

I’ve been considering getting a kitten. This would be the first animal that I will pay all expenses for, so I’ve been exploring my options and costs everywhere *first*.

I want to feed a higher-quality food (naturally I’ll go with something the cat does well on) but I don’t want to break the bank. I know it’s important to feed a combo of wet/dry–what I plan to do, anyway.

We have a new Petco in town, so I’ve been checking out what the store supplies. I’ve been going between Wellness and this food:

http://www.petco.com/product/7953/Natural-Balance-Ultra-Premium-Cat-Food.aspx?CoreCat=IO-_-ProductList_1-_-Natural%20Balance%20Ultra%20Premium%20Cat%20Food-7953

^^That’s the dry version. I budgeted it to cost me less than a month for a combo of wet/dry with this brand, depending on how fast I go through the dry food. Wellness would be around – a month with a wet/dry combo. Naturally I want to feed something good to my cat, but I also want to feed something *affordable* to my cat. We fed my pup this when she started out, and she did well on it, and the ingredients don’t look so bad, but–what do you think?

Thanks for any answers.

Champion

We’re different… Unlike the marketing and multinational companies that sell (but don’t actually make) today’s pet foods, Champion Petfoods Ltd. stands apart as a family-owned producer with a mission that is simple and strong: MAKE CANADA’S BEST PET FOODS. Located in the heart of Alberta’s prairie farmlands, Champion is a reputable producer of high quality dog and cat foods that are exported worldwide since 1975. Different from the typical “meal and grain” diets, ORIJEN formulas start from fresh regional ingredients like grain-fed chicken and fresh whole eggs produced on local prairie farms, lake whitefish – freshly caught from the icy depths of northern Canadian lakes, and salmon, cranberries and apples from Pacific coast oceans and orchards. the great cat food debate….?

i just found a great little pet store that sells super premium cat food near my new house (just moved to a new town). the best thing available to me before was royal canin so now that there is something better available i want to switch my cats to a new (better) brand, but i’m not sure which is best for my kitties. the choices i have are:

Merricks BG (before grain) in chicken, salmon, or tuna variety

Solid Gold katz-en-flocken

Natural Balance all life stages

Nutro

my cats are 9 and 8 month old siamese males (both neutered). they are the extreme show type and are about to begin their adult show careers so it’s VERY important that their coat quality remains and that their weights do not increase (i know food alone isnt the cause of wieght gain as much as how much they’re being fed)
