UPDATE(14)Aug 11,2011 LIVE KITTEN in Tony’s CAGE (return visit back home)do you see the kitty kat in Tony’s cage? How did that poor little thing get in there? You know a tiger does have instincts..well the little kitten was scavenging Tony’s food bowl for scraps amongst all the flies that were hungry too..pathetic. ALSO NOTE: “POOL” WAS STILL EMPTY from earlier visit that morning! I did report the kitten to the employees..by this time the kitten had walked to other side of “habitat”. I suppose the kitten was tiny enough to crawl in&out of the fencing..when i walked back to the other side..i could no longer see him.I am hoping the kitten did get out of there. They assured me they would search for the kitten. This has got to be another USDA VIOLATION and for sure an ANIMAL RIGHTS CASE against SandBAG. Who knows what happened to that little kitten.Tony might have eaten him..it’s only natural for him to do so.As if SandBAD does not have enuf troubles. He may also have LSU trademark infringement on him, for painting Tony’s cage purple & gold. You have seen my Aug 11 vid of Mike the Tiger,LSU’s mascot’s habitat.LSU in NO WAY would support Tony’s habitat, and by not taking action against SANDBAG for trying to promote his truck stop as part of LSU system using their colors, well,LSU will not allow that.LSU has a very nice, one of the finest habitats in the nation, for Mike the Tiger. Which cat food should I try? Raw diet maybe?

Ok. I currently feed my cat a combo of Blue Buffalo Spa Select wet and dry. I know all the problems with dry, I just like the idea of her being able to free-feed, mostly because I honestly can’t afford to feed her strictly wet. Because of this, I’ve been looking at other, lower-priced premium foods like Wellness and Natural Balance. Which of these would you recommend, and why? Also, is it a good idea to rotate the brands to add some variety?

One more thing: I’m interested in learning about a raw diet, and I would like to know people’s experience with cost of feeding raw and convenience of preparing the food and obtaining it.

Hi, we just adopted a new kitten last weekend. I haven’t had a cat in over 10 years and the selection of food choices has changed dramatically! There is a local holistic pet food store in our neighborhood and I started there with their advice on the best diet to start off right (my previous cats became overweigt as they got older and had all kinds of digestive issues even with feeding "premium foods") Anyway, the holistic store recommended a holistic grain free balanced dry and canned food for "all stages of life". It all made sense to me -and the feeding quantities/instructions were very detailed based on the stage of life (kittend, adult, etc.) My kitty loves the food, too! Now the confusing part… just came from our first vet appointment and I just got a 20 minute "lesson" on why holistic foods were not the best choice… stating that cats need the grains for carbohydrates because they’ve evolved over hundreds of years and their digestive tracks aren’t equal to a true carnivore. And that a kitten’s nutrition needs are not the same as an adult cat and just feeding more of the same thing – as is what the all stages of life holistic food instructs – was not the same as feeding a specific food formulated for a kitten. The vet kept pushing Science Diet as the best possible food and diet out there citing all sorts of stats and research etc etc. She said that even though the holistic supporters are well intentioned, the people that really know whats best nutritionally are the people with the letters behind their names. She was so strong about it I almost got the impression she was getting kickbacks from Hills! I even left with a weeks supply sample of dry kitten and canned food. Now I am totally confused! She also told me that Science Diet is the only brand out there that has never had a recall. Which a quick internet search proved her wrong which led me to this site. She also told me that the smaller companies that make the holistic foods may have more quality control issues and less control of the sources which makes them wide open to potential harmful ingrediants. I’m hoping someone has some insight! I really like the idea of the holistic grain free food but I certainly am not a vet and want to trust the experts. BUT who, really, is the expert? Seems to be a very divided issue! Thanks for any advice.

My cat has OCD!

this is what it looks like after 2 years of treatments, running bloodwork, biopsies, hypoallergenic food, anti-biotics. without this dressing he WILL scratch himself to oblivion, and enjoy it too. i know the feeling i have it too. the white area was once also covered with infection and other stuff. he won’t grow hair again there.

The little kitten in this video is a natural-born explorer, and so we’ve been calling her Dora. That name is just temporary, though — once she’s adopted, her new family can name her whatever they choose. Dora will be available in Sacramento, CA, after July 7th, 2011. At that time, she will be eight weeks old and eating solid food, and she will have received her first series of core vaccinations. Dora has already been dewormed and given a flea, tick and earmite preventative treatment. We’re also proud to say that she’s using the litterbox flawlessly. Dora was brought to us at the end of May 2011, when she was almost three weeks old. A neighbor found her in his yard and went door-to-door looking in vain for her owner. We’ve guessed that she probably belongs to a stray mommy — Dora likely got lost when she went off exploring on her own when she was too young. She has exhibited great curiosity and strong exploration instincts from the beginning. She’s a natural-born adventurer! We’ve bottle-fed Dora lovingly, and we’ve gotten her used to playing with other animals…like the big tabby cat named Squeaky in this video. All the frequent, close human contact makes bottle-fed kittens super-friendly and well-adjusted members of any family. They are very special little creatures! If you live near (or are willing to come to) Sacramento, CA, and are interested in adopting Dora, send us an email introducing yourself to vanessa at crazybrain.org and we’ll get back to you ASAP. Thanks!
